We have annotated several hundred teaching resources cataloged in the National Science Digital Library with spatial concept terms listed below. We have also created a new TeachSpatial collection annotated in the same way. The concept terms were drawn from the U.S.National Science Education Standards (NSES 1996) for topic areas B - Physical Science, C - Life Science, D - Earth and Space Science, as well as from the 1994 U.S. Geography Teaching Standards for grades 9-12. Those standards can be browsed here.

NSDL teaching resources related to "movement"

This Classroom Connectors lesson plan teaches students about ocean movements such as currents, tides, and waves. This includes types of currents, Northern and Southern Hemisphere currents, differences between salt and fresh water, trade winds, and tsunamis. The site provides goals, objectives, an outline, time required, materials, activities, and closure ideas for the lesson. The Classroom Connectors address content with an activity approach while incorporating themes necessary to raise the activity to a higher cognition level.

This peer-reviewed article from BioScience journal is the role of monoamines in animal behaviors.Animals possess a rich repertoire of behaviors, each generated by the orchestrated activity of assemblies of neurons. Neuromodulators, and particularly monoamines, have been found to play a role in the recruitment of such assemblies. The role of specific monoamines in the modulation of behavior has been particularly well studied using invertebrate animals as models.

If a sailboat is stranded because there is no wind, is it possible to set up a fan on deck and blow wind into the sail to make the boat move? In this activity, learners explore this classic physics question by using simple materials to build a low-friction cart with a removable motor and a removable sail. Both East and West Antarctic ice sheets are rapidly moving into the Southern Ocean, which could raise sea level by 70 meters causing massive problems for populated coastal areas around the world. Ian McHarg (1920–2001) was one of the true pioneers of the environmental movement. In his 1969 landmark book, Design With Nature, McHarg spelled out the need for urban planners to consider an environmentally conscious approach to land use, and provided a new method for evaluating and implementing it.
